Here you can find pre-owned woodworking tools, books or supplies that may be "as new", second hand, surplus stock or stuff we just need to move along including vintage woodworking hand tools. We will be adding a selection of tools each Friday lunchtime for the foreseable future.

Our descriptions are accurate and we do not embellish the condition of the tools on offer.

Thinking of selling your quality hand tools? - we can either buy them from you (see below) or handle the sale of your best hand tools on a commission basis. Usually these tools are sold without the requirement to pay VAT in the UK (unless our client is VAT registered which is unlikely). Note - usually the minimum sale value for commission sales is over £200.

Individual tools such as planes or sets of chisels usually sell well and because we are selling high quality new hand tools to a wide customer base we tend to attract better prices than the auction route. Further information on Commission Sales here

Once sold, we deal with the shipping of the item which can be worldwide. Payment is made when all items consigned are sold and the buyers have had the requisite period of grace under distance selling regulations (nominally 2 weeks).

Occassionally we buy good quality pre-owned woodworking tools from private individuals. These hand tools are usually manufactured by respected brands including Lie-Nielsen, Blue Spruce, Veritas, Clifton, Norris, Ward, Sorby, Colen Clenton and many more.

A Stanley No.6C (Corrugated sole) [Vintage]

Needs a darn good clean up. This plane has a corrugated sole to assist movement over resinous wood. We do not see too many of these. Will clean to G++ 18 inches long, 2 3/8 inch wide, weighs in at just under 8 lbs. Made between 1898 and 1970 - we think this may be pre-2nd WW.

An Ebony & Brass Mortise Gauge [Vintage]

These are so well made, really heavy with thick brass plate and escutcheon. The 2 pins are needle sharp so watch out! These are typically found in British cabinetmakers workshops of yesteryear. Stanley No.93 Shoulder Plane [Pre-owned]

In near perfect condition, this plane has not done any work. It is a recent model. Full iron. Stanley, Made in England. This plane is commonly used for trimming tenons, shoulders, and cutting or cleaning up rebates (rabbets). Made in Sheffield, England, often seen as a reliable alternative to the US-made versions, with production spanning several decades from the mid-20th century.

4 nice beech sopkeshaves with good blades. Cutting edges of 1, 1 3/4, 2 1.4 & 2 3/4 inches. The 1, 1 3/4 and 2 1/4 inch bladed shaves have quite tight mouth openings whereas the largest shave has done more work and the mouth is more open due to wear but it is perfectly usuable.
