MARCOU S2 2008 HEAVY SMOOTHING PLANE
It is not easy to find out a great deal about this plane by Philip Marcou which was made in 2008.
Reviews of his work are not plentiful but it is obvious that his planes were very well received when he first started making in 2006.
Philip Marcou is based in New Zealand so that may go some way to explaining why he is not such a "household" name in the UK along the likes of Bill Carter & Karl Holtey.
This bevel up heavy smoothing plane is a hefty 7.5lbs (3 kgs) utilising a Veritas plane blade ground at 30 degrees and honed to 35 degrees.
The plane has seen very little use indeed and is still in its original simple protective packaging.
It is 290mm long (11 1/4") with a sole width of 70mm (2 3/8")
The plane blade is 57mm (2 1/4") wide. A veritas leaflet is included which has been annotated by Phil Marcou regarding honing angles etc.
The sole is steel, dovetailed into the heavy brass sides.
Here is some reading for you which is a bit dated but relevant nonetheless.
