Norris A17 Smoother Plane [Rare, Vintage]
Product Description
This is a commission sale of a rare A17 Norris coffin shaped smoother.
- Gunmetal sides with sweated steel sole and steel pins.
- Attractive rosewood infill which needs a very light cleaned to get rid of a few grimy marks, paint splatter etc.
- The rosewood will respond delightfully and hopefully the photographs already do justice to the rich rosewood colour. No major scratches or blemishes to the infill.
- The steel sole and the gun metal sides are in very good condition. Very minimal, careful cleaning of the metal is needed, taking care to preserve the patina.
- The gunmetal encases the front bun on 3 sides and the knurled cap iron screw has a flat head.
Stamps and markings:
- The 2 1/4" wide Norris Iron is stamped NORRIS LONDON with the number 4 on the reverse side and in a separate area what appears to be the letter H.
- The rosewood infill under the blade is stamped 1
- The cap iron is stamped NORRIS LONDON.
- The lever cap is stamped NORRIS A17 LONDON PATENT ADJUSTABLE.
- The adjuster works perfectly well and is stamped Norris London Patent No.11526-13-22. This indicates that this Norris A17 was made between 1914-1922.
- No owners stamp or retailer’s stamp.
