Inspired by antique Scottish miter planes, this tool is designed for comfort and control whether used on its side for shooting or upright as a traditional bench plane. When shooting, the side-mounted horn allows you to drive the plane with the web of your thumb while your fingers hold it firmly against the workpiece—leaving your other hand free for support. The shooting horn can be mounted on either side of the plane, making it equally comfortable for right- or left-handed users.

When used upright, deep finger grooves along the sides, a front knob, and a rear palm rest provide a secure, natural grip for smooth forward motion. Both knobs and the shooting horn are crafted from torrefied maple for durability and stability.

The plane body is made from fully stress-relieved ductile cast iron, with both sides machined flat and square to the sole. Its substantial mass and generous proportions make it especially effective for shooting and cutting miters on larger work such as moldings. Weighing nearly 5 lb (2.27 kg), it offers excellent inertia, while the 10-1/2'' (267 mm) long, 2-5/8'' (66.7 mm) wide sole—with a toe that spans fully one third of its length—ensures solid registration, even when skewed cuts are required, such as when used in a miter jack.

The adjustable mouth is easily set by loosening the front knob; a brass thumbscrew securely retains the setting and prevents the toe from contacting the blade.

Built as a bevel-up plane, it features a low 12° bed angle combined with a 25° blade bevel, producing an effective cutting angle of 37°—ideal for clean, controlled end-grain work. The PM-V11 steel blade is 2'' (50.8 mm) wide and 3/16'' (4.8 mm) thick, lapped flat. A Norris-style adjuster extends beneath the rear knob for convenient access without interference, while twin blade guide screws prevent lateral movement during use.
