Drawing inspiration from the renowned Maebiki ''whale back'' saw, known for its tall, whale-shaped blade designed for ripping logs into boards, this saw features a narrower and lighter weight blade making it much easier to handle and control. This crucial attribute was tailored specifically for timber framing and allows for fast and precise cutting of tenon cheeks and other rip-cut needs in large timbers.
The saw's expertly crafted Rip teeth are specifically designed for cutting through green or wet wood. The teeth become progressively more aggressive from the handle to the end of the blade. This allows users to easily initiate cuts near the handle and accelerate through the material with greater efficiency with full length cutting strokes. Made from high-grade SK85 Japanese tool steel, the blade measures 390mm (15.3'') in length with impulse hardened teeth for long term sharpness and durability.
The handle is made of Japanese Wingnut (in the walnut family) and is stained a rich dark brown colour. The handles 30-degree bend creates a fulcrum point, allowing the user to apply more force to the teeth for faster cuts.
