The Shapton stones are ceramic which means they will wear more slowly than a traditional waterstone, but still cut quickly to get you back working in no time.
The ceramic grit is bonded to float glass which also helps maintain the stones flatness.
No need to soak, just splash water on to its surface, and you are ready to go.
Like a waterstone these Shapton Glass Stones will need to be flattened to make sure you get the best results. To do this you can purchase the Shapton Diamond Flattening Plate which is designed for the job. For occasional users; wet and dry paper on a flat surface will suffice.
These ceramic stones are very popular in kitchens, but Classic Hand Tools stock the wider (70mm) stones which are also suitable for plane blades and chisels.
