Designed for squaring up the ends of mortises, grooves or housings. The faces are precision ground to produce clean, accurate 90 degree angles. Often used nowadays to clean up after a router. Sharpen each face individually with an oil stone.
The origins of this tool are from wheelwrights and millwrights who used a v shaped chisel to hollow out mortises in wheels and wooden beams (often referred to as a bruzz or bruzzle).
