Product Description

A donkey’s ear is a traditional fixture used with a shooting board to produce 45° mitred corners on wide workpieces, making it especially useful for box-makers.

The Veritas Donkey’s Ear is easily assembled and attaches to either the Veritas Shooting Board or a user-made version. Designed to be quickly installed or removed as needed, it provides an accurate, stable inclined platform to help ensure well-fitting mitres.

It adjusts easily to set squareness to the fence and exactly 45° for precise mitres. Constructed of 12mm Baltic birch plywood, it includes all assembly and mounting hardware and can be configured for right- or left-hand use.

The angled face is 10''(254mm) x 8'' (203mm).

Made in Canada.

"Fabulous service as always from CHT, but is the veritas Donkey any good? Traditionally these were large and very heavy, like vices. This certainly isn't, though beautifully cnc cut and easy to assemble. On my first effort, clamped to an Axi shooting board the upper end surface of the maple piece chipped off. Maybe a sacrificial strip placed along the edge or a rough angled sawcut or planed chamfer would be a better start, then using the jig as a trimmer to complete. Veritas supply Robertson Squarelox headed screws, you will need an R2 bit. I note several have been sold now and it would be good to find other box makers comments."
