Product Description

These Ashley Iles MKII bench chisels are so attractively priced - how do they do it? These MKII chisels are a great improvement upon the original MKI's.

Hardened O1 high carbon steel with slim tapered blades which gives you access to tight spaces. The backs are also ever so slightly concave (a few thousands of an inch!) This is designed to help with sharpening.

Newtonia handles with brass ferules.

Set of 6 includes 1/8" (3mm), 1/4" (6mm), 3/8" (9mm), 1/2" (12mm), 3/4" (19mm) and 1" (25mm) & a free tool roll. Includes free UK shipping.

Heat treated to RC60-61.

Please note that the chisels now come without their plastic sleeve. All chisels are hand ground and checked by eye only, this may lead to variations in the squareness of chisels.

"All the AI chisels I’ve had have been slightly hollow ground making polishing the back quick and easy (takes about 1 minute per chisel to get leading 1/4” on the back polished). I love the feel of them, very similar to old Sheffield chisels. The only thing I would mention is the 1/4” chisel is thin and fairly long for the thickness so it can flex a little which could be an issue for some people but not been an issue for me and thinness comes in handy sometimes. They may not look as pretty as Lie Nelson or Blue Spruce on a shelf but if you’re going to use them, these are really good chisels."

"Be prepared to put a fair amount of hard work in to get these chisels working at their best. Once you have done this they are very good and sharpening is a breeze. You cannot expect these chisels to be in the same class as Blue Spruce chisels but, at their price point, they are pretty good value (I would not recommend thumping them with a mallet but Thorex hammers work well)"
