Product Description

The Veritas router plane is the Stanley #71 reborn with radical improvements. An invaluable tool for work on stopped or through dadoes and grooves, or for any work that requires an area cut to a precise depth. The blade depth is regulated by a fine screw feed that travels 1/32" per turn for precise adjustment, with the resulting depth of cut controlled by a positive locking depth stop. Unique to the Veritas router plane is a spring-loaded blade-clamping collar that holds the blade in position when the collar is loosened. It provides tactile feedback, allowing controlled blade adjustment to a depth of 1".

The ductile cast iron body has been accurately machined and ground flat. Weight is 2lb. The large wooden knobs are positioned to provide both comfort and excellent control.

Includes two cutters: 1/2" straight, and 1/2" pointed (for final smoothing). The optional fence (made of stainless steel and aluminium) can be positioned on either side of the plane and will work on both straight and curved pieces. In addition to using for dadoes or grooves, our router plane is the perfect tool for inlay or intarsia work, or for cleaning out areas for hardware installation, where fine control is critical.

A blade sharpening jig is also included.

The Optional Fence (05P3807) is not included and can be purchased separately.

"The router plane is actually quite good. I didn't want to build one myself, and I really like the look and feel of metal router planes anyway, so I bought this. Since I bought it, I have been using it, but not as much as I thought I'd be to be honest (maybe my expectations were very high from watching youtube videos on it). It's a very good tool, but I just tend to use other tools that I may have in my hands at the moment (chisels or other planes). I still end up using it in every project though, so there's that. I would normally rate this as a 5/5, but I got one where the blade was quite leaning to the front, barely touching the screw that lowers the blade. Classic hand tools were very helpful and sent me a new router plane body very soon. After contacting veritas directly, I found out that their advertising on the plane is wrong (they admitted it themselves) in that they consider the plane iron to be fine if it leans forward up to a certain amount. Also the angle cutter will never create a really smooth surface (it will always have some grooves). None of these cause any problems in use and the replacement I got works ok, however I deduct a star out of five for what looks like issues in manufacturing on veritas side at least on the iron I got."
