A rounder is also known as rotary plane and is used to create accurate tenons or for rounding spindles for chairs. All of these 6 rounders are made by Ray Iles.
The thick blade is held in place by two washered screws which allows you to adjust or remove the blade for sharpening very easily.
Beech body, lightly linseed oiled.
Having reduced your spindle to a little over the size of the rounder (the size is stamped on the beech body), first secure your spindle in a vice. Then thread the rounder downwards over the spindle and it will create a uniform diameter spindle or tenon.
Chose your rounder size according to the finished diameter you require.
