Product Description

The Nakaya Dozuki Gold saws are a precise, well-balanced saw designed for fine joinery work. Dozuki refers to the backed spine, making it an excellent choice for dovetails (even though it is a crosscut), tenons, and other detail-oriented cuts where accuracy matters.

A choice of 4 sizes

  • Dozuki Gold 150 - 150mm blade - 0.2mm thick blade, spacing 0.83mm (30TPI), setting 0.35mm.
  • Dozuki Gold 210 - 210mm blade - 0.2mm thick blade, spacing 0.83mm (30TPI), setting 0.35mm.
  • Dozuki Gold 240 - 240mm blade - 0.3mm thick blade, spacing 1mm (25.4TPI), setting 0.45mm.

These saw performs best with a light touch and deliberate stroke. When the blade eventually dulls, replacements are easy to fit with a screwdriver.

  • Replaceable blade made from high-quality Japanese steel.
  • Cross-cut teeth, perfect for "shoulder" work.
  • Ultra-thin blades.
  • Fine tooth pitch.
  • Rattan-wrapped handle

Customer Reviews

By Mark Webster on 5th February 2025
"Excellent saw recommended for extra fine work such as Kumiko. The kerf is narrow enough to sit in a knife cut, which hugely aids accuracy. Without this saw or similar, I doubt it would be possible to make Kumiko patterns by hand. It is razor sharp and cuts smoothly."

"Just got the 210mm Dozuki (and the 250mm Kataba). Not all Japanese saws are equals, but the best are really amazing. These are absolutely as good as any I have owned or tried. The dozuki is silky-smooth, fast, ultra-precise... and delicate. So care in handling is required. An outstanding smaller precision saw, rips just as well as cross-cuts. Very good in softwoods and even-grain hardwoods (fruitwoods, walnut etc). The Kataba is also very good. Plan on getting the big rip / cross saw now. Recommended with enthusiasm!"

Usage & Care

This is a specialist saw made for clean, accurate work, not brute force.

Using the saw:

  • Use light, steady pull strokes. Let the saw do the work.

  • Ideal for cross-cutting clean timber (e.g. beech, cherry, walnut, pine).

  • Not recommended for hardwood ripping or composite materials like MDF.

Care tips:

  • Wipe clean after use and store in a dry place.

  • Avoid side pressure or twisting during cuts.

  • Eventually your blade will wear! Replacement blades are available and installation is simple with a screwdriver.

About Nakaya

We’ve been stocking these superb Japanese pull saws for nearly two decades, though until recently, they arrived unbranded. We're now proud to acknowledge their true origin: Nakaya Fine Tools.

Nakaya’s roots go back to 1907, when Nitaro Nakaya founded the company in Hokkaido. Now based in Sanjo City, Niigata, Nakaya remains a family-run business, led by third-generation president Shintaro Namba. Their legacy is built on a blend of traditional craftsmanship and technical innovation.

Over the years, Nakaya has developed not just saws, but the precision machinery required to make them, pioneering Japan’s first fully automatic saw-cutting machine in 1967. Today, they produce a wide range of high-performance tools, from classic Dozuki and Kataba saws to automated blade-processing equipment used by other manufacturers.

Expertise in handsaw technology has been passed down through generations, resulting in some of the most refined and reliable pull saws available. With developments such as impulse-hardened teeth, ultra-fine blades, and a focus on accuracy, Nakaya saws continue to set the standard for woodworking professionals worldwide.
