Lie-Nielsen's smoothing planes are precision machined from an iron casting. Comes with a beautifully formed handle and knob made from American cherry. They have the Stanley Bedrock style frog which gives a fully machined mating fit between the frog and body. You can move the frog backwards or forwards, allowing the opening or closing of the plane's mouth without having to remove the lever cap or blade. The blades are a 1/8" thick and require light honing before use.
Comes with a 45° frog as standard. Other frogs are available separately.
The No.3 - Just a bit smaller than the No. 4.

"A recent addition to my growing collection of Lie Nielsen tools. It’s exactly the quality one expects from them. Wonderful to use of course and this particular size is more useful than you may think. If not doing any significant jointing I would suggest having a 101 block plane, a number 3 and a number 51/2. That should cover most work nicely. "
