Lie Nielsen No 4 1/2 Smoothing Plane

This Lie-Nielsen Toolworks wide smoothing plane (No.4 1/2) was bought from Classic Hand Tools about 9 months but the customer never used it.

A visit by him to us this week involved a bit of tool swapsies and we now have this plane available.

Technically it is pre-owned. Our man has taken the plane out of the box and so have we for inspection purposes which means the original wrapping is scrunched but apart from that minor observation, the plane itself is "as new" in its original Lie-Nielsen box.

So, it is a bit cheaper than the fresh untouched 4 1/2's in our Lie-Nielsen Toolworks section.

The plane details are as follows:-

Solidly built, this is the ultimate smoothing plane. It is longer, wider, and heavier than the No. 4, and its extra thick blade eliminates the possibility of chatter.

Ths has the standard ange 45° frog..

• 10 3/8" (264mm) long.
• 2 3/8" (60mm) blade. A2 steel.
• Iron body 5½lbs (2.5kg).
