Iyoroi Spearpoint 18mm Drawshave Chisel - Yari Kanna [Preowned, As New]
Product Description
Boxwood handle - unused.
In fact whilst it looks like a chisel it is best described as a plane (kanna).
These work by drawing the edge towards you. They are also described as a Japanese skew chisel that tapers to a point from 18mm. The length of the blade is 60mm with an overall length of 210mm
Japanese Yari Kanna are unusual tools, descended from ancient Korean and Japanese bent chisels used for shaving and flattening surfaces, similar to adzes, drawknives and crooked knives in the West.
This curved, double edged, spear-pointed "Yari Kanna" can be used for ground work in relief carvings, and for creating unique hand-tooled textures on panels, frames and furniture.
The Yari Kanna is usually worked with one hand. Both edges are sharpened to permit cutting on the draw stroke or on the push, typically while holding the tool palm up and using the wrist and off hand for leverage.
Unused in mint condition. This is a commission sale.
