Crown Tools Box Scraper - 1/4'' (6mm)
The Crown Tools 1/4'' Box Scraper was developed by professional turner Albert Harrison for cleaning out the inside of small boxes and similar end grain work.
Sharpen with a diamond hone across the top flat and end - note only grind this tool when you lose the profile.

Crown Tools Dovetail Cutting Tool
In 2001 Stiles and Bates ground some of their 1/2'' scrapers to this profile for a course they were running.
Crown Tools followed suit so you lovely people can also benefit from S&B's innovation.
So this is not a new idea but from what Dave Bates has shared with us, this tool is more useful than other dovetail tools as it will cut both internal and external dovetails on bowls...

Round Nose Scrapers can be more useful if the left shoulder is ground sharp (this is assuming the tool is being used for inboard turning).

The curved end profileof thie Robert Sorby Scraper makes this excellent for creating, smoothing and blending curved surfaces in bowl and spindle work, eg round bottomed boxes. This new tool is able to take an agressive cut, whilst retaining the butterfly sensitivity for the refining cuts.

The Robert Sorby diamond/side cut scraper can be used on square bottomed boxes the end profiles allows the tool to create a right angled juncture between side wall and bottom. The 85º angle at the end prevents the tool from cutting th eside wall and the bottom at the same time.

Robert Sorby Box Scraper
The special cutting profile of this Robert Sorby box scraper makes it ideal for cutting the parallel side walls of end grain boxes. The small radius on the point at the bottom of the cutting section creates a smooth intersection between the side wall and the flat bottomed vessels. The profiles cause this to be very responsive and sensitive in use.
