This is the saw to use with the David Barron Dovetail Guides, as recommended by David himself. The blade is slightly deeper than most Japanese dovetail saws and is a dedicated rip cut.
A very versatile rip dovetail saw which will work in most materials including softwoods and hardwood (not exotics), OSB, MDF, ply, laminates, composites. It will also cut the likes of some acrylics and PVC pipes, but that seems wrong to me! This rip saw is actually pretty good at cross cutting also, but if you are looking for a dedicated crosscut saw with a back I would suggest the Dozuki Crosscut.
The Gyokucho Razorsaws cut on the pull stroke. The blades are thin, but the teeth are very tough: perfect for making smooth, clean and precise cuts. Each tooth is impulse hardened and heated 0.003 to 0.005 seconds one at a time, making only surface of each tooth very hard. The hardened teeth is harder than sharpening file, so with correct use will stay sharp for many years to come. The blades are nickel plated which helps prevent rust, and will also assist in stopping gunk such as sap getting stuck to the blade. As the blade is nickel plated you can wipe them down with warm soapy water, but we still suggest drying the blade.
No need to use excessive power, let the weight of the saw do the work.
