Tormek Adjustable Tool Rest
Ref: T-SVD110

With the Tool Rest you get an extended support surface from the Universal Support. It is ideal for sharpening turning scrapers and special tools for woodcarving, e.g. large scorps and inshaves. You can also use it for cabinet scrapers and hollowing tools.

It has a generous surface, 90×110 mm, which permits a safe and steady positioning of the tool towards the stone.

The bore is made with a special wedge shape, which increases the locking force by 250 %. You can lock the Tool Rest instantly at the chosen angle. This unique design is patented by Tormek.

Tormek Diamond Stone Truing Tool
Ref: T-TT50

If your grindstone has become uneven, it is easily fixed with the Tormek Diamond Truing and Dressing Tool TT-50. It will make your stone perfectly round and flat again.

Easy feeding across the stone
You conveniently feed the diamond cutter across the stone by alternately turning the two knobs with both your hands. Thanks to the controlled feed, you get an even and flat stone surface with no ridges.

Controlled cutting depth
The cutting depth is set exactly by the Micro Adjust on the Universal Support. The scale has increments for each 0,25 mm or 0,01". Watch the video for a demonstration on how it works.

Create a coarse or fine surface
With a higher feed speed across the stone (approximately 30 seconds instead of 90 seconds) the surface will have pronounced grooves, which will cause the stone to grind faster. This is beneficial, when sharpening or shaping tools in hard steel with a large bevel area, e.g. turning skew chisels and electric jointer/planer blades.

The slower you feed, the finer the surface you will achieve. A traverse time of 90 seconds across the stone gives you a good finish with hardly any visible grooves.

Tormek Stone Grader
Ref: T-SP650

With the Stone Grader SP-650 you can change the grit size of the Tormek original grindstone to give a finer sharpening surface. The other side of the Stone grader is used to maintain the grindstone, bringing new abrasive grains to the surface for an effective sharpening.

The Tormek Original Grindstone is designed so that it can be treated with the Stone Grader to change its quality from fast grinding to fine sharpening. This has obvious advantages. Once you have created the desired shape on your tool, for example a chisel, you can get an even finer edge using the same grindstone and the same grinding machine with the same jig and settings. Besides being convenient not having to change equipment, you are guaranteed to get exactly the same edge angle.

Change to fine sharpening
If you want to adjust the stone to a finer sharpening, press the fine side of the stone grader towards the stone surface for about 30 seconds. This will alter the function of the surface of the Tormek Original Grindstone (220 grit) making it work like a 1000 grit stone.

Activating the grindstone
When you want to go back to the original 220 grit, simply press the coarse side towards the stone for a few seconds until you can notice the stone surface changing.

To keep the stone fresh and efficient, use the coarse side of the stone grader when you see it is needed. Press it firmly with your hands for about 30 seconds. This process does not place excessive wear on the grindstone and can be repeated any number of times.

Tormek Turning Tool Setter
Ref: T-TTS-100

The Turning Tool Setter TTS-100 is the key to an efficient sharpening of woodturning gouges and skews. It enables you to exactly create and replicate the edge angle on your bowl and spindle gouges as well as on your flat or oval skews with either a straight or a curved edge.

TTS-100 works in conjunction with the Gouge Jig SVD-186 and the Multi Jig SVS-50.

By knowing your exact profiles, you will be able replicate them in seconds, and radically speed up your sharpening process.

The TTS-100 Setter works irrespectively of the stone diameter. You always get exactly the same edge angle – even as the stone decreases in diameter. It also works equally well when setting the edge angle on the leather honing wheel.

Three factors determine the shape
Three factors determine the shape of a gouge or a skew. By controlling these and repeating them at each sharpening, you will get an exact replication of the shape and edge angle. It will save you time and steel on your tools, but maybe even more important, you can trust that your tools always will perform in the exact same way at the lathe, after each sharpening. These are the factors:

1. The jig setting (JS)
2. The protrusion of the tool in the jig (P)
3. The distance to the stone (hole A or B)

Select your shape
On the Tormek Selection Chart you can choose from common profiles what best fits you and your turning, see below or in this PDF. Of course, you can also create your own recipe if you like. The most common shapes are numbered and printed on to the setter.

Since a tool can have an unlimited number of combinations of shapes and edge angles, a new tool has a more or less different shape compared to any of the shapes on the chart. Therefore, you first need to shape your tool to a set geometry, then the following sharpenings will be an easy task and done in less than a minute.

Stick to the shape you have selected and do not switch from one shape to another. Then you will get the full benefit of the Tormek TTS-100 Setter, since you can instantly replicate exactly the same shape every time. It will make your sharpening more efficient, which means more time for turning.

Tormek Leather Profiled Honing Wheel
Ref: T-LA120

With the profiled leather honing wheels LA-120 you can hone and polish the inside of turning gouges, carving gouges and V-tools. Fits all Tormek models.

You mount the extra wheels on the outer side of the standard honing wheel.

LA-120 is delivered with two standard discs. The first has a radius of 3 mm (1/8") for gouges and the second has a 60° tip for v-tools.

It is used together with the Tormek Honing Compound PA-70. When the discs are new, impregnate them with a few drops of light machine oil before you apply the honing compound.

The leather discs are exchangeable so you can easily replace a worn disc, see LA-122 Set of standard exchange discs. There are also narrower profiles available, see LA-124 Set of narrow exchange discs.

It is also possible to mount double LA-120 wheels, one with standard profiles and one with set of narrow discs, and thus have access to four various profiles at the same time.

Swedish quality leather
The leather on the Leather Honing Wheel is provided by the tannery Tärnsjö Garveri in Sweden. Tärnsjö Garveri has tanned and processed leather for over 140 years and is today one of the few tanneries that completely tans their leather with natural products. Tormek Honing Compound
Ref: T-PA-70

The honing compound is used together with the Tormek Leather Honing Wheels. The unique qualities of the leather together with the honing compound will effectively remove the burr created from sharpening, without damaging the edge. At the same time, it will also polish the bevel to the finest finish.

The honing compound contains a combination of micro abrasives and polishing components (average grain size 3 micron).

One application lasts for about 5-10 tools. Work the honing compound into the leather. The leather honing wheel will become saturated and more efficient the more you use it.

When you have a new honing wheel, impregnate it first with a light machine oil so that it gets the right texture and can absorb the honing compound.

If you work in a dry climate, you might need to re-impregnate the honing wheel after some time with a few drops of oil before you apply fresh honing compound. Do not let the compound dry, apply more oil if necessary.

Tormek Woodturner's Instruction Box
Ref: T-TNT-300

The Tormek Instruction box, which contains a 1 hour 20 minutes DVD film and a handbook shows you how to shape and sharpen all your turning tools. The film is made by Jeff Farris, a highly experienced American woodturning instructor and the handbook is written by Torgny Jansson, the inventor of the Tormek Sharpening System.

In the film, Jeff puts focus on the most important tools - which also are the most difficult to sharpen - the spindle gouge, the bowl gouge and the skew. You can watch him shape an edge to his favourite profile and see how quickly it is re-sharpened once the setting is done.

The handbook clearly describes the whole system and its possibilities. Numerous line drawings show step by step how to shape and sharpen your tools. Repeatability is the core word and the book explains three efficient methods for how to best replicate an edge profile.

The Instruction Box comes with the Woodturner’s Kit TNT-708 and can also be purchased separately. The kit contains all accessories you need to use the Tormek TNT sharpening system.

Tormek Bench Grinder Mounting Set
Ref: T-BGM-100

If you need to remove a lot of steel to create a desired shape on a new tool, this Bench Grinder Mounting Set BGM-100 enables you to use the Tormek woodturning jigs also on your bench grinder.

Take control of your profiles
No matter which grinding machine you use, the most difficult part in sharpening woodturning tools is to exactly replicate the shape and the edge angle.

With the BGM-100 you can now use the following Tormek jigs on your bench grinder: the Gouge Jig SVD-186, the Multi Jig SVS-50, the Tool Rest SVD-110 and last but not least the Turning Tool Setter TTS-100.

What does the BGM-100 package include?
The package includes a height adjustable block, hardware, a Universal Support, a Horizontal Base, feet for the base you will build and comprehensive instructions. Mount the set on either side of the grinder.

Why introduce Tormek jigs also for bench grinders?
We believe that the water cooled Tormek system is superior in sharpening virtually every edge tool in your workshop. However, there is no secret that when it comes to woodturning tools and you need to remove a lot of steel, the initial shaping can be done faster on a bench grinder. We know that many woodturners have access to a bench grinder and use it for the first rough shaping.

If you have a Tormek sharpening machine
With the BGM-100 you can use the same precise Tormek jigs through the whole sharpening process. There is no longer trial and error in getting the right shape on the bench grinder. Thanks to the TTS-100 setter, you can benefit from the fast steel removal on the bench grinder - and with the settings unchanged - move the tool to the Tormek water cooled grindstone and the leather honing wheel for the final sharpening and finish.

If you do not have a Tormek sharpening machine
If you do not yet have a Tormek machine, you can still benefit from the precise Tormek jig system to get the desired shape and edge angle on your bench grinder. The principle for setting the shape and edge angle is the same regardless of which machine you use. If you later choose to add a Tormek to your workshop, you will already have the jigs you need for your turning tools.

About Bench Grinders
Using the right type of grinding wheel
Not all grinding wheels are suitable for the precision sharpening of edge tools. The standard wheels mounted on the grinder are often too hard and become glazed easily and clogged, which reduces steel removal and causes overheating of the tool. Worn grains must wear away so that new ones come into play. If not the grains will rub instead of cutting, which will increase the friction and heat development. Use an aluminium oxide wheel with the right binding - not too hard to avoid glazing and not too soft to avoid grooves.

Wheel Surface
The wheel surface must be kept fresh and clean. Use the dresser recommended by your machine supplier.

Influence of heat on HSS steel
HSS steel can stand a much higher temperature than carbon steel without decreasing the hardness. However, at the very tip of the edge, which is very thin, the temperature can easily rise to a level which will affect the hardness. Therefore, grind cautiously at the tip of the edge and do not allow it to become blue. Overheating HSS steel can cause a decrease in the hardness by as much as 4 HRC, which shortens the life of the edge. If you cool it in water, do not cool abruptly from a high temperature, since this can cause micro cracks invisible to the naked eye.

Grinding dust
The fine dust from the grinding wheel and steel particles from the tool can be a health hazard. It is best to use a dust extraction system, so the dust does not pollute the air. You must use a separate extraction system and not the same system as for your wood dust, since a spark could light a fire in the inflammable fine dust.
