We sold bundles of these before the Toishi Ohishi stones became our waterstone of choice. There is nothing wrong with these Norton stones and this one comes in perfect condition with an instruction booklet in sharpening stone station/holder.
8000 grit needs soaking in water for 5 minutes prior to use.
This grit is for edge maintenance. The stone is designed to cut, not polish. It leaves a refined edge that can easily be brought to a mirror finish on a strop or finer stone.
