Auriou Toolworks (France) no longer make these fabulous carving tools designed by English master carver Chris Pye about 15 years ago.

Michel Auriou told us in 2024 that they will not be making these tools again, but we remained foolishly optimistic that he might change his mind. He won't for various excellent reasons so we are confident in our description here.

This is a complete set of all the carving tools designed by Chris Pye for Auriou. All have octagonal ash handles with tapered brass ferrules. We present these 38 tools complete with a copy of an instruction guide for the letter carving tools drafted originally by Chris..

NOTE - a chisel is flat, series 3 is a very shallow gouge, series 6 mid series (or mid sweep), and series 9 is a deep gouge

A 17 tool Basic Woodcarving Set comprising of:

• Series 3 – 5, 8, 14, 20 & 26mm
• Series 6 - 5, 8,14, 20 & 26mm
• Series 9 - 5, 8, 14, 20 & 26mm
• “V” parting tools – 10mm
• 10mm Skew chisel

A 14 tool Letter carving Set comprising of:

• 7 Allongee chisels 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 & 45mm
• Fishtail Chisel - 14mm
• Fishtail gouge 3F – 10mm
• Series 5 gouge – 11mm & 20mm
• Series 6 gouge – 10mm, 13 mm & 22mm

Lightweight with a beautifully forged short fishtail shape, these gouges are a lovely example of how hand forged tools, made in a traditional manner possess a delicacy that few manufacturers can match.
