This is the new 'Deluxe' version of James Mursell's ever popular Travisher. It is made from an engineering polymer Delrin and should last a life time of normal use. James has designed this with a substantial brass insert before the blade which will only further its resistance to wear and should mean that it should perform the same now as it will in 10, 20, 30 years time. The added weight (over the original wooden version) gives this travisher some serious heft which really helps in the cut.
Used after the adze and scorp, the travisher can remove wood quickly to create the final shape; but by re-positioning the blade with the two grub screws it can also produce very fine shavings. This unique design is very comfortable to use, which is unencumbered with screws or gaps as found on alternative makes. The shavings are freely expelled through the large slot in the top of the tool.
The carbon steel blade is made by Ben Orford who is well known for making woodworking tools and knives.
