Product Description

24” long with 2 5/8” wide original (thin) cutter with 1 1/2” life left before you need to invest in a replacement blade (we sell these!)

A very good example of this jointer plane with original rosewood handle and front knob in very good condition.

Production of this plane stopped in 1958 and we think this is a type 14 which dates it to 1939-1940. At over 85 years old, this super plane still has a lot of life left in it.

Leonard Bailey is synonomous with the early Stanley planes. He sold his businesses not once, but twice to Stanley and these sales included several patents that endured for decades. He was plane making in and around 1858 with his production certainly up and runing by 1866. Bailey, Chaney & Company was bought by Stanley in 1869 and he worked with them for 7 years before setting up a competing manufacturer of bench planes, Leonard Bailey and Company. This new enterprise was sold to Stanley in 1884 by which time Leonard Bailey had turned his attention to the printing business.

In G++ condition this plane has the APRIL 10 patent date. Rosewood handles.

We can’t be sure if this has been re-japanned (the black paint), we suspect it might well have been many years ago. Whoever did it, did a fine job.
