3 Auriou Curved “Chairmaking” Rasps [Pre-owned]

Product Description

These are long, curved soled, hand stitched rasps from the Auriou Forge in France, ideal for shaping hollow form like chair seats or the bottom of large open vessels.

These are not part of itinerary that Auriou currently produce so are probably 20 years old (one exception being the grain 9 rasp which they still make occasionally).

The handles have brass ferrules (minor split to two of these).

Stitched on the curved underside only, these are essentially curved cabinet maker’s rasps.

This is a graduated “set” of 3, stitched for right handers.

You use an Auriou rasp much like a plane, with a skew angle to your work (not straight) as this is more comfortable for the user. The angle is about 20-30 degrees, but you will “feel” the optimum bite when using the rasp. If you are a left hander, please do not purchase these right-handed rasps but refer to our main Auriou rasps page for left-handed options.

• 300mm grain (cut/stitch) 4 – an aggressive rasp for quick stock removal. Overall length with handle is 420mm
• 300mm stitch 6 – coarse medium. Overall length with handle is 420mm
• 250mm stitch 9 – medium fine (you can move to scrapers or sandpaper after this rasp). Overall length with handle is 370mm

They have seen little use but show discoloration from new. They have been oiled which can discolour the steel.

The teeth are cutting well as we have tested these on some hardwood.
