Shapton Kuromaku Professional Series Stones
Product Description
These are the ever popular Shapton Kuromaku Stones. They also known as Shapton Professional or Shapon Pro whetstones, but are all one and the same thing. They are ceramic which means they will wear more slowly than a traditional waterstone, but still cut quickly to get you back working in no time. Ideal for sharpening woodworking blades and chisels, aswell as kitchen knives and straight razors.
No need to soak, just splash water on to its surface, and you are ready to go. So no waiting around waiting for the water to be absorbed. Do not store wet.
Like a waterstone these Shapton Kuromaku Professional Series Stones will need to be flattened from time to time to make sure you get the best results. To do this you can purchase the Shapton Diamond Flattening Plate which is designed for the job, or one of the DMT Dia-Flat plates. We also have the Shapton Lapping System ''Naoru'' for flattening. For occasional users; good old wet and dry paper on a flat surface.
We are stocking all the grits available. So you can start with the White 120 grit (K0701 Extra Coarse) stone which is for removing material quickly on damaged blades, and go all the way up to Purple 30,000 grit (K0711 Super Fine) which is possibly a tad excessive (!), but will give you the ultimate finish. You do not need every grit, but depending upon what you already have we would suggest something along the lines of 120 - 320 - 1000 - 5000 - 12,000 grits for woodworking tools.
Supplied in a plastic case with rubber feet for also using as a holder.
Stone measures 210mm x 70mm x 15mm (8 1/4'' x 2 3/4'' x 5/8'').
