Veritas Router Planes

Veritas Router Planes

Veritas Miniature Router
Ref: 05P8201

This 75mm wide router plane not only looks like its full-size counterpart, it works like it too. Comfortable to hold and manoeuvre, it is ideal for hardware installation, fine inlay or intarsia work.

It comes with a 3.2mm wide A2 tool-steel blade (hardened to HRC 60-62), positioned inboard for standard use or outboard for true bullnose work. The carefully machined stainless steel body has a ground and lapped sole. The sole encircles the blade for maximum registration to a workpiece and to bridge recesses for stability on narrow stock. The knobs are Bubinga. A fine screw feed mechanism sets blade depth, whilst a knurled clamping knob secures the blade.

Weight just 55g, supplied in an embossed, French-fitted presentation box.

Veritas Small Router Plane
Ref: 05P3850

A versatile tool for fine work, particularly on narrow material or in confined areas, this small router plane is invaluable for any task requiring small recesses, grooves or dadoes.

The sole is designed to completely encircle the blade when in the closed-throat position for maximum registration to the workpiece, even when approaching from the side or working the edge. This also allows it to bridge recesses, providing great stability even on narrow stock.

The blade may be positioned inboard for standard closed-throat use, or outboard, with the cutting edge of the blade extending beyond the body, for true bullnose work. The blade-clamping knob has been positioned behind the blade to allow visibility and chip clearance. Pressure from a wave washer steadies the blade during height adjustments.

The comfortable ductile cast iron body is accurately machined and features a lapped sole. The plane is 3-1/4" wide and 2-1/4" deep, with a 1/4" wide high-carbon steel blade.

Veritas Medium Router Plane
Ref: 05P3863

Slightly larger than their small router plane, this tool has the advantage of using the same blades as our full-size router plane.

For general use, the blade may be positioned inboard with the sole encircling it for maximum registration on the workpiece, even when approaching from the side or working an edge. This allows it to bridge recesses, providing great stability even on narrow stock. The blade can also be used in an outboard configuration, with the blade extending past the body, for bullnose applications. The blade-clamping knob uses a wave washer to hold the blade as it is loosened, for easy, controlled depth adjustment.

An included stainless-steel depth-stop collar locks onto the blade shaft to limit cutting depth to a preset maximum. The plane can make cuts up to 1" deep with the depth stop installed or up to 1¾" deep without it. The ductile cast iron body has been accurately machined and ground flat. The plane is 3½" wide by 3" deep and weighs about 13 oz. A versatile plane, particularly on narrow material or in confined areas.

Supplied with a 1/4" blade.

Veritas Router Plane
Ref: 05P38

The Veritas router plane is the Stanley #71 reborn with radical improvements. An invaluable tool for work on stopped or through dadoes and grooves, or for any work that requires an area cut to a precise depth. The blade depth is regulated by a fine screw feed that travels 1/32" per turn for precise adjustment, with the resulting depth of cut controlled by a positive locking depth stop. Unique to the Veritas router plane is a spring-loaded blade-clamping collar that holds the blade in position when the collar is loosened. It provides tactile feedback, allowing controlled blade adjustment to a depth of 1".

The ductile cast iron body has been accurately machined and ground flat. Weight is 2 lb. The large wooden knobs are positioned to provide both comfort and excellent control.

Includes two cutters: 1/2" straight, and 1/2" pointed (for final smoothing). The optional fence (made of stainless steel and aluminum) can be positioned on either side of the plane and will work on both straight and curved pieces. In addition to using for dadoes or grooves, our router plane is the perfect tool for inlay or intarsia work, or for cleaning out areas for hardware installation, where fine control is critical.

The Optional Fence (05P3807) is not included and can be purchased separately..

Veritas Inlay Cutter Head for Router Plane
Ref: 05P3845

This simple attachment for a Veritas router plane lets you score a shallow groove to accept inlaid purfling, banding or stringing, taking advantage of the plane’s fence and depth-adjustment mechanism to precisely control groove position and depth.

The cutter head holds a pair of included single-bevel slicing blades that score crisply defined groove outlines across, with or diagonal to the grain. By using a chisel or switching to a standard router plane blade matching or smaller than the width of the desired groove, you can quickly hog out the waste between the scored lines.

An included set of shims and spacers lets you set blade spacing to define groove widths from 1/16" to 15/32" (1.5mm to 12mm). Set includes five each of four sizes of plastic shims (0.002", 0.005", 0.01", 0.02") and one each of 0.04", 0.08" and 0.12" steel spacers.

To score a groove parallel to a straight edge, a fence (available as an optional accessory for the Veritas router plane) is used to guide the cutter blades at a consistent offset from the work edge. For following curved edges, a non-marring brass stylus (included with the inlay cutter head) can be threaded onto the fence rod in place of the straight fence.
