Lie-Nielsen's smoothing planes are precision machined from a manganese bronze casting, or an iron casting. They all come with a beautifully formed handle and knob made from American cherry. They have the Stanley Bedrock style frog which gives a fully machined mating fit between the frog and body. You can move the frog backwards or forwards, allowing the opening or closing of the plane's mouth without having to remove the lever cap or blade. The blades are a 1/8" thick and require light honing before use.
The No.4 The equivalent of a later type Stanley Bedrock No.604. Overall length 9½", width of blade 2". Available in ductile cast iron or manganeze bronze.
