Ron Hock has been making plane blades since 1981. He can best be described as a small metalworking cottage industry located in the middle of Mendocino's renowned woodworking enclave in Northern California.

Ron Hock's plane irons (or blades as many people like to call them) have been handcrafted to satisfy the demands of the most discriminating professional. Shaping, beveling, and slotting have been done by hand-grinding and precision machining. He is so darn good at it now he has had to outsource some of the production due to unprecedented demand!

Hock high carbon and cyrogenically treated A2 blades are to replace your worn out Stanley, Record, Marples blades. Hock makes replacement blades (and chipbreakers) for bench planes, block planes, scrapers and spokeshaves. He also makes wooden spokeshave blades, marking knives & burnishers.

Hock Blades for Bench Planes Ref: BPA

Ron Hock has earned an international reputation for the quality of his plane blades. Ron incorporates the same basic principles as used by 19th Century edge tools makers in his high carbon steel blades and updates these principles in his A2 cryogenically treated steel.

High carbon steel blades are easier to sharpen and will give you a fantastic cuting edge. However they will require more frequent sharpening.

Hock Chipbreakers Ref: HCB

To maximize your plane's performance, a thicker chip breaker (cap iron) can stabilize the blade's cutting edge reducing vibration and chatter. HOCK Chip Breakers are 3mm thick (.118"), almost twice as thick as a stock chip breaker and they come with with a knurled cap screw.

Hock Block Plane Blades Ref: BLA

Classic Hand tools offer four block plane blades all of which are 3/32" thick x 4 1/4" long.

Which HOCK blade do I need for my Block Plane?

We offer four different block plane blades in two different alloys.

The first determinant is the blade width, either 1 3/8" or 1 5/8".

The next is the width of the slot in the centre of the blade. It will be either about 7/16" wide or about 5/8" wide.

They are vailable in High Carbon Steel (HC) or Cryogenically Treated A2 Tool Steel.

Wooden Spokeshave Blades Ref: SPO

These are the two-threaded-post style carbon steel blades and yes, the brass thumbnuts are included.

The small blade has a 11/2" cutting edge and is 2 1/2" by 7/16" overall.

The larger blade has a 2 3/4" cutting edge and is 4 7/16" x 5/8" overall.

Hock Replacement blades for metal spokeshaves (Type 151) - cryogenically treated A2 blades

Perhaps the most dramatic improvement can be realised by accurizing and tuning your Spokeshave. It is a mediocre tool as it comes from the factory, but with a quality blade and a little fussing, it becomes a versatile and sensitive tool capable of doing fine work. Stanley and Record Style with the dog-bone shaped adjuster slots.

Replacement blades for the Stanley No.12, 112, 80 & 81 Scraper Planes. Ref: SB

The blades for the Stanley No.12 and No.112 Scraper Planes are 3/32" thick by 2-7/8" wide and 5" long with a 45 degree bevel on the cutting edge. Hardened for a balance of long edge life and burr "rollability"

No.80 replacement blade (also fits the Record 080) measures 1/16" X 2-3/4" X 3" long

No.81 replacement blade measures 1/16" X 2-1/2" x 3-7/8" long.

Burnishers Ref: BR375

Hock burnishers are hardened (Rc64) and polished high carbon tool-steel rods that stand up well to constant use on scraper edges. Most others are not hard enough for this demanding application.
