Replacement Blades from Ron Hock
Ron Hock has been making plane blades since 1981. He can best be described as a small metalworking cottage industry located in the middle of Mendocino's renowned woodworking enclave in Northern California.
Ron Hock's plane irons (or blades as many people like to call them) have been handcrafted to satisfy the demands of the most discriminating professional. Shaping, beveling, and slotting have been done by hand-grinding and precision machining. He is so darn good at it now he has had to outsource some of the production due to unprecedented demand!
Hock high carbon and cyrogenically treated A2 blades are to replace your worn out Stanley, Record, Marples blades. Hock makes replacement blades (and chipbreakers) for bench planes, block planes, scrapers and spokeshaves. He also makes wooden spokeshave blades, marking knives & burnishers.
Classic Hand Tools are the exclusive UK stockist of Ron Hock blades. We keep good stock levels of both A2 and high carbon steel blades at all times.

Ron Hock - Plane Iron Assemblies
These plane irons were developed by Ron Hock in collaboration with the faculty and staff at James Krenov's Fine-Woodworking studio in Fort Bragg, California. 3 1/2" long by 3/16" thick, they won't deflect or chatter under the toughest use. Designed specifically for the finely-tuned handmade wooden plane, these irons are un-beatable. They come complete with chip-breaker and assembly screw.
By the way, if you are ever in this neck of the woods you should call by the College of the Redwoods which is a wonderful place that has a programme of woodworking courses including short courses.
The plane irons are High Carbon Steel which is Ron Hock's personal weapon of choice when making plane irons.
These plane irons are in stock at Classic Hand Tools as from mid February 2010 and will be a regular stock item thereafter. Prices include VAT at 17.5%. We will ship these outside of the UK, please enquire for postal costs.
